See Stories Alaska: Chevak Climate Change & Community Planning

In early 2022, See Stories, a nonprofit that provides free youth film workshops, spent a week in Chevak, Alaska collaborating with elementary students and community members at the Chevak School.

The school's 6th grade students each created a film about a significant place around Chevak. For their film's subjects, students chose places like the playground, the tundra, the river, the lake by the school, and many other spots and topics that held importance. The 6th grade students also had the opportunity to create films with the 4th graders and Kindergarteners, training up the community's littlest filmmakers!

Throughout the workshop, students were incredibly excited to learn skills around filmmaking and digital storytelling. They were happy and eager to spend as much time as possible working on their films, many asking if they could stay late after school to keep working. The See Stories team is excited for the upcoming films and future storie these students tell.
